Necromancer
Complete Class Review
The most-played class in public lobbies. Summon up to 10 zombies, reanimate Brutes as soldiers, and cover all 6 play scenarios — no other class does that. Here's everything post-nerf.
- Cost
- 750–815 gems
- Zombie Cap
- 10 (post-nerf)
- Zombie Duration
- 2 minutes
- Melee Reanimate
- 15% chance
- Scythe Trigger
- Every 30 sec
Necromancer in action — zombie army, Call of the Dead, and Brute reanimates
Core Abilities
Call of the Dead
Summons a fresh wave of zombie servants. Post-nerf, the hard cap is 10 zombies at a time. Recasting the ability kills your current summons to make room — meaning you lose any powerful Brutes you already have.
Melee Reanimate
Any melee kill has a 15% chance to reanimate the killed zombie as your servant. The servant lasts 2 minutes. Unreliable at high waves where you need consistent returns.
Scythe Trigger
Every zombie you kill with the scythe every 30 seconds reanimates guaranteed. More reliable than the 15% melee proc — pair this with the scythe for consistent servant generation.
All 6 Play Scenarios
No other class in Survive the Apocalypse can legitimately claim all six. Necromancer is the only one that works for every playstyle.
Army of zombies compensates for lack of teammates
Zombies act as a frontline so teammates can focus fire
Command Brutes to charge enemy positions
Reanimated zombies block doorways and entry points
Zombie distraction lets allies heal or reposition
Stay outside at night, reanimate Brutes, send them in
Call of the Dead, zombie army control, and scythe mechanics
Pre-Nerf vs Post-Nerf
Pre-Nerf
- • Unlimited zombie stacking (impractical beyond ~15–20 due to deaths, but possible)
- • Call of the Dead added to your existing army instead of replacing it
- • Brutes and stronger summons persisted through recasts
- • Widely considered A–S Tier; most popular class in the game
Post-Nerf (Current)
- • Hard cap of 10 zombies — no stacking beyond that
- • Recasting Call of the Dead kills your current summons
- • Loses the high-wave scaling power that made it elite
- • Community reaction: multiple players said they quit or are considering it
Suggested fix from the community: Cap zombies at 15 instead of 10, and when recasting Call of the Dead, preserve your strongest existing summons (Brutes) instead of killing all of them indiscriminately. See full nerf discussion →
🔭 The Night Scouting Strategy
Wait outside the base at night when Brutes are spawning. Let your team handle the regular zombie waves inside while you patrol the perimeter.
When Brutes appear outside, engage and kill them. With your scythe trigger or the 15% melee proc, reanimate them as servants. Then command them to enter the base — Brutes under your control hit like trucks on the enemies attacking your team.
This is the strongest use case for the class. You're a Brute factory — constantly cycling powerful enemies into your army. Avoid recasting Call of the Dead while you have Brutes active, as it will destroy them.
Scouting at night, Brute reanimate, and commanding the zombie army
Pros & Cons
- Only class that works for all 6 play scenarios
- Army of zombies makes solo runs far less dangerous
- Reanimated Brutes are devastating servant soldiers
- Excellent scouting loop — let Brutes do the base work
- Post-nerf hard cap of 10 zombies (was unlimited stacking)
- Call of the Dead kills your existing summons on recast
- Summoned zombies die quickly past Day 150
- 15% melee reanimate chance is unreliable without scythe
Watch: Necromancer Class Review
Still the Most Versatile — But the Magic Is Gone
Post-nerf Necromancer drops from A–S Tier to B Tier. The 10-zombie hard cap and the self-destruct on recast gutted the high-wave scaling power that made it elite. That said, it's still the only class that covers all 6 play scenarios. The Brute scout loop is still devastating. Worth buying if you want the summoner fantasy — just manage your expectations and never recast while you have Brutes active.
