6 Base Building Tips
Pack Electric Fences Tight
Electric fences are your primary kill layer. Place them as close together as possible — even a single-tile gap lets zombies slip through and attack the inner wall.
Use Watchtowers as Your Outer Shell
Watchtowers have significantly more HP than regular fence sections. Build your outermost defensive ring with watchtowers so the electric fences behind them have time to activate on approaching zombies.
Place Repair Drones Centrally (Max 5)
You can have up to 5 repair drones. Position them in the center of your base so each one covers the maximum fence radius. Drones on the outer wall get destroyed quickly — keep them inside.
Gate in the Corners, Not the Center
Gates placed in the center of a wall create a wide zombie funnel that's hard to hold. Corner gates force zombie pathing around the perimeter and let your electric fences do more work before enemies reach the gate.
Farm Batteries via the Reactor Teleporter
Batteries keep your electric fences running. The teleporter to the military base provides infinite battery farming via the refined scrap respawn loop. Run it regularly so your fences never go dark at a critical wave.
Upgrade to Military Turrets ASAP
Regular turrets are a placeholder. Once you unlock the military base, swap to military turrets — they deal significantly more damage and have higher range, making them worth every crafting resource.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
These are the most frequent base-building errors that cost players runs at high wave counts.
- Building gates in the center of walls — creates a wide undefended choke
- Placing repair drones on the outer ring — they get destroyed before they can repair anything
- Running out of batteries mid-wave — electric fences go offline at the worst moment
- Relying only on turrets and ignoring electric fences — turrets need ammo, fences don't
- Not keeping a crafting table inside the base — forces dangerous runs outside to craft during waves
- Skipping the map — you need line-of-sight info on incoming zombie paths to plan gate positions
